This session describes the contents, relations and anatomical divisions of the mediastinum.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy of the mediastinum
- Identify the four main sub-divisions of the mediastinum
- Differentiate the structures within each major sub-division
Mediastinum' is from the Latin that means 'in the middle' and could be used to describe structures in the middle of various structures or organs.
By common use, the term mediastinum refers to the structures in the middle of the chest.
This session aims to improve your knowledge of the mediastinum, its divisions and the structures within it. This session also includes some questions to test your knowledge.
