CSF and meninges
Session overview
Description
This session will provide an overview of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and meninges.

Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • recognise meningeal layers
  • identify and name anatomical structures associated with the meninges
  • identify and name the parts of the ventricular system
  • describe the flow of cerebrospinal fluid through the ventricular system (including its production and reabsorption)

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the meninges are key to the function of a healthy brain and central nervous system (CNS). In this session you will learn the structure and function of the different layers of the meninges and the potential spaces that lie between.

You will also learn about the anatomy of the ventricular system, the production of CSF, the flow of CSF through the ventricular system and its eventual reabsorption.
