Advanced Critical Care (SKILLS & PROCEDURES) CourseThis 1 day face to face course teaches 16 different procedures to manage critically ill patients with airway, respiratory or circulatory pathologies. Online pre-reading and activities will provide clinical context to the procedures that will be taught and allow participants to acquire 2 days of CPD.
The Advanced Critical Care Skills & Procedures Course is a one day face to face course aimed at teaching emergency procedures including management of pneumothorax and management of airways, defibrillation and pacing .
Online pre-reading and activities and face to face lecture will provide clinical context to the procedures that will be taught and allow participants to maximise CPD.
ACEM FELLOWS will achieve the Airway, Breathing, Circulation and Scope of Practise procedures CPD requirement during this one day.
Clinical scenarios will be presented as a foundation to teach the indications for the procedures.
However, the emphasis will be on practical sessions using animal models and simulation equipment with expert instruction.
The procedures covered will be:-
- Finger thorocostomy
- Needle thorocostomy
- Insertion of fine-bore chest drain (guide wire technique)
- Insertion of large-bore chest drain
- Interosseous access
- Bag Valve Mask Ventilation
- Airway Adjuncts
- Laryngeal Mask insertion
- Direct Laryngoscopy Intubation
- Video Laryngoscopy Intubation
- Cricothyrotomy
- Jet Insufflation oxygenation
- Synchronised DC Cardioverison
- Trans-Cutaneous Pacing
- Paediatric Basic Life Support
- Adult Basic Life Support
For ACEM Fellows this course will be a tremendous help in completing your scope of practice CPD requirement.
