Acute Pain Management of Special Populations - Renal, Hepatic, Sickle Cell course



This session covers the initial management of acute pain in patients with chronic kidney disease, liver dysfunction and sickle cell disease.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- State the main causes and complications of renal disease
- List the stages of chronic kidney disease and the estimated glomerular filtration rate associated with each stage
- State the main causes of liver disease
- State the main symptoms of sickle cell disease
- Describe the management of acute pain in patients with kidney disease, liver disease and sickle cell disease

Since qualifying from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1990, Jane trained in anaesthesia in London at St Thomas’ and Bart’s hospitals, and in Oxford.
She is now a consultant anaesthetist in Oxford, and an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Oxford.
Jane’s professional interests include acute and inpatient pain management.
Jane is a content author and module editor for the e-PAIN project.
