Causes of Acute Spinal Cord Compression
Session Overview
Description
This session discusses the causes of acute spinal cord compression.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe three common causes of acute spinal cord compression and outline appropriate investigations and treatments for each
The main presenting symptoms of spinal cord compression are pain and neurological impairment.
Back pain is a common clinical presentation and is mainly associated with degenerative disease of the spine. However, acute presentations with associated neurological symptoms must be thoroughly investigated to exclude spinal cord compression.
This session describes the causes of acute spinal cord compression, and focuses on the three most common in more detail.
