Acute Medicine | Speech disturbance 03 knowledge B
Areas of the Brain and Associated Speech Disturbances
Session Overview
Description
A visual journey through the different areas of the brain, and the speech problems that arise if affected by disease, particularly in relation to stroke.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Link anatomical areas of the brain to different speech disturbances
Understanding which parts of the brain cause speech abnormalities can be important when asking for investigations.
For example, there are a number of stroke syndromes that are characterised by different speech abnormalities and affect different areas of the brain. Familiarity with these anatomical areas is helpful when reviewing investigations, particularly in early strokes that may have subtle changes on a CT scan.
