Management of Chronic Kidney Disease
Session Overview
Description
This session describes the causes and metabolic complications of chronic kidney disease.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- List the causes of chronic kidney disease in relation to the anatomical 'site of injury'
- Recognise the ECG features of hyperkalaemia and initiate emergency treatment
- Recognise key functions of the kidney, the pathophysiological consequences of kidney dysfunction and the basics of managing these complications
Chronic kidney disease is common. However ‘kidney failure’ is not a diagnosis in its own right.
The diagnosis needs to include the underlying cause and pathophysiological consequences of kidney dysfunction. This session discusses these issues further.
