Session Overview
Description
This session covers the investigation and management of a patient presenting with dysuria.

  • Recall the anatomy of the genitourinary tract
  • Explain the pathophysiology of infective causes of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Outline the principles of management of UTI
  • Identify general measures to prevent recurrent UTI

Dysuria is a common symptom, affecting around a quarter of adult women each year and is defined by a burning or stinging sensation on urination. The most common cause in adult women is a lower UTI. There are also other important causes of dysuria, especially in men, which are highlighted in the session Causes of Dysuria (003-0116).
