Parkinson’s Disease: Diagnosis, Investigation, Management
Session Overview
Description
This session familiarises you with the diagnostic process and key points in the management of Parkinson’s disease (PD).
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- List the key factors in the diagnostic process in PD
- Identify the reasons for performing investigations in PD
- Distinguish between the different treatment options in PD
- List the key factors vital in safely managing patients with PD, presenting as an acute admission
Parkinson’s disease is one of the commonest neurodegenerative diseases and as such may be picked up for the first time on presentation to an acute medical unit (AMU), albeit often during an admission for an unrelated problem.
This session reviews:
- The diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, both clinically and with new investigation modalities
- Treatment strategies in people with PD and what drug and non-drug options are available for this
This should improve your skills in diagnosing PD and give you a basic outline of the management of the condition.
