Acute Presentations of Tuberculosis (TB)
Session Overview
Description
This session discusses how tuberculosis might present acutely to the Emergency Department or on the Acute Medical Take (e.g. pulmonary, spinal, meningitis). It also examines the complications of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy that may present acutely (e.g. hepatotoxicity and skin reactions) and their management.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session youwill be able to:

  • Describe the factors that make TB a possible/probable diagnosis in patients presenting to the Emergency Department/Acute Medical Take
  • Explain the initial management of TB
  • Identify common side-effects of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy and manage them accordingly

This session covers examples of how tuberculosis might present acutely to the Emergency Department or on the Acute Medical Take.

It also looks at complications of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy that may present acutely.

Feedback to the questions will be comprehensive and will give you context-related knowledge.
