Acute Medicine | Cardiovascular | Characteristics of ventricular tachycardia versus supraventricular tachycardia
Characteristics of Ventricular Tachycardia Versus Supraventricular Tachycardia
Session Overview
Description
This session will cover how to identify the diagnostic features of ventricular tachycardia from a 12-lead electrocardiogram reading.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Identify diagnostic features of ventricular tachycardia from a 12-lead ECG reading
Broad complex tachycardias are seen commonly in acute medical practice. They can be caused by either ventricular tachycardia (VT) or supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) with bundle branch block (BBB). A good pragmatic approach to dealing with these conditions is to assume all broad complex tachycardias are due to VT until proven otherwise.
This session will enable you to identify the key features of VT on an ECG, in order to make the correct diagnosis and instigate the appropriate management and subsequent treatment.
