Acute Care Nursing
The purpose of this unit of study is to enable students to advance their knowledge, specialist skills and develop the core competencies required to care for people in acute care setting. Students will build on existing knowledge and experience and will be supported to critically evaluate current practice. This unit of study aims to develop essential assessment and management skills and build your understanding to care for acutely unwell people.

Theme 1: Care of the deteriorating person
Discuss the dynamic nature of acute illnesses and the related assessment findings in recognition and management of clinical deterioration
Theme 2: Respiratory consideration in acutely ill
Interpret specialist knowledge, assessment skills and information to support an improved standard of care
Theme 3: Recognising and managing circulatory function
Propose advanced clinical decision-making skills related to care of people with acute illness or injury
Theme 4: Clinical issues in neurological nursing
Discuss illness and injury-specific management strategies informed by contemporary evidence and current clinical guidelines
Theme 5: Gastrointestinal and metabolic consideration in acutely ill
Conceptualise the strategies for collaborative partnerships and their impact on person-centered care
Theme 6: Renal considerations
Critically reflect on your own practice in relation to culture safety and the delivery of equitable and respectful health care
