SIRS
This learning activity is a competency assessment on the Serious Incident Response Scheme.
This is a competency assessment to check and refresh your knowledge about the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS). SIRS has been mandatory for residential aged care services since April 2021 and will be mandated for home aged care from 1 July 2022.
Elder Abuse
This learning resource will add to or refresh your knowledge about what to look for, who to tell and how to be involved in protecting older people and their rights for those living in residential care and at home.
Elder Abuse aligns to Standard 8 of the Quality Aged Care Standards. As a health care worker providing care or services to older people living in residential or home care you are required to practice in accordance with the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards.
Open Disclosure
The people you provide care and services to are partners with you and your service as a requirement of the Aged Care Quality Standards. Good partnerships come from open and honest communication.
So when harm or a near miss has happened, people need to know, and trust it will be sorted out in the best way for them.

Hazardous Manual Tasks
As a health care worker providing care or services to older people living in residential or home care you are required to practice in accordance with the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards.
Fire Safety
As a health care worker providing care or services to older people living in residential or home care you are required to practice in accordance with the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards.
Restrictive Practices
A short learning activity about Behaviour Support Plans as a requirement of the quality of Care Principles 2014; Aged Care Legislation Amendment (Royal Commission Response No. 1) Principles 2021.
A BSP is now required for:
- Everyone who needs behaviour support care or is receiving behaviour support care.
- Those who are or may be subject to the use of restrictive practices.
- Where the use of a restrictive practices is necessary following all the assessments and consent requirements.
These learning resources will also have relevance in all of other health care settings providing care or services to older people.
