Abnormal Dental Development in the Mixed Dentition course for Dental Practice
This session will discuss how to identify retained infra-occluded ankylosed, primary teeth, dilacerated and supernumerary teeth.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the main characteristics of infra-occluded primary teeth, supernumerary teeth and dilacerated incisors
- Explain how infra-occluded primary teeth are diagnosed and treated
- Outline the principal effects of supernumerary teeth and how they should be treated
- Describe the aetiology of dilacerated incisors and how they should be managed
Before commencing this session you should:
- Complete the e-Den session 7 Management of Developing Dentition/Assessment for Interceptive Treatment/Development of the Normal Occlusion, Primary, Mixed and Permanent
- Have a basic knowledge of pre-eruptive tooth development and development of the dentition
Toby qualified as a dentist from the University of Edinburgh in 1991. After working through house officer rotations and general practice he became a Lecturer in oral medicine and Radiology at the University of Otago, New Zealand. On returning to the UK, his specialist training in Orthodontics started at Glasgow University followed by a fixed term training appointment in Newcastle. He took up his first Consultant position in the Edinburgh Post-Graduate institute where he became head of department and Programme Director for Orthodontic Training in the South of Scotland.
Toby left Edinburgh to became orthodontic lead for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Cleft Team in 2006. He is currently convenor of the orthodontic specialist Group of CLEFTSiS, The Cleft Lip and Palate service for Scotland, the first managed clinical network in Scotland.
