2025 Urinary Catheterisation Workshop
About the course
Nurses are the leading healthcare provider performing this procedure. Research, however, suggests that catheter-associated urinary tract infection is the most nosocomial infection worldwide of healthcare-associated urinary tract infections, 80% of which occur in catheterised patients. In addition to infection, urinary catheterisation is associated with a number of complications including, bleeding, trauma, urinary retention, and urosepsis.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants practical skill training to facilitate clinician capability development on safe removal, insertion, and maintenance of urethral and suprapubic urinary catheters. Participants will learn evidence-based knowledge on risk prevention and reduction, management of problems associated with urinary catheterisation procedures and appropriate urinary catheter maintenance and care. This workshop utilises interactive teaching approach which will enhance participants learning experience and insight in this area of nursing practice.
This face-to-face workshop is conducted over 1 day and is equivalent to 6 continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
