ECG III
Session Overview
Description
This third and final session about the ECG discusses cardiac conduction and arrhythmias.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Calculate the heart rate from an ECG
  • Analyse an ECG with a slow heart rate and assess the significance
  • Evaluate an ECG with a fast heart rate and recognise the implications
  • Recognise left and right bundle branch block and explain the clinical significance of each
  • Identify atrial fibrillation in a given setting

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should complete:

  • ECG I (001-0141)
  • ECG II (001-0142)

This is the third of three sessions about the ECG.

Patients with conduction abnormalities and arrhythmias often present during the perioperative period or when they are in the critical care unit.

Anaesthetists must be able to recognise these ECG patterns and their implications in these clinical settings.
