This is the first of two sessions on pain experience in children and young people. It covers the evaluation of pain, including its definition, pathophysiology, presentation and assessment.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the pathophysiology of pain and the pain pathway
  • Explain pain terms
  • Interpret the presentation of pain
  • Assess pain

Pain is a complex issue, which is perceived differently by individuals for a variety of reasons - both physically and psychologically.
