Lung Foundation Australia, the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand and Asthma Australia have joined forces to deliver a National Lung Learning Program. The program is Australia’s key source of quality-assured and evidence-based respiratory health education and training for primary healthcare professionals.
The Lung Learning Framework is the first of its kind for respiratory health in the world and sets the country’s best-practice standards for the diagnosis, treatment and care of lung conditions. The framework is in response to many chronic and rare lung diseases, which are being diagnosed too late or misdiagnosed. The framework will better support the 1 in 3 Australians living with a lung condition.
Since welcoming this announcement in 2021, the Lung Learning Partnership have collaborated with research and peak body partners to design a competency-based education and training framework and an online Lung Learning Hub.
General Practitioner Dr. Kerry Hancock says the Lung Learning Hub provides a great tool for professional development.
"The interactive manner of working through the competencies on the Lung Learning Hub will assist busy health professionals to quickly assess areas they might wish to strengthen," Dr. Hancock said.
Lung Foundation Australia CEO Mark Brooke says the education and training is underpinned by reliable and up-to-date research and evidence and will continually evolve to provide quality-assured information.
"The Lung Learning Hub will host quality assured lung health education and training which is very encouraging and paves a pathway for professionals to map their learning needs," said Asthma Australia CEO Michele Goldman.
The Lung Learning Framework vision
The Lung Learning Framework will be recognised as the national, best practice education and training capability framework for primary healthcare professionals. The framework will help to identify those at risk, diagnose and manage those living with lung conditions.
The Lung Learning Framework guides professional and career development for the primary care workforce, setting Australia’s best-practice standard for lung health education and training.
